Champions of Battle: The Very Best – Opportunity #5

Once the BigBad Crew entered the club, the DJ started playing Jaquan’s theme music.  Jaquan made sure that it played every time he entered an arena to fight.  As it played again, his fans recognized it immediately.  That was all the introduction he needed.  Everyone cheered welcoming him and the real celebration began.  The BigBad Crew entered together with their highly enchanted formal clothes.  Fire themed, they lit up the club quite literally.

The whole team had their hand to play in Jaquan’s victory, but it was Jaquan that performed on the stage.  He rode the high of his most recent victory, the focus of the party.  He led his crew through the club with his head held high.  They danced and ate enchanted food to help Jaquan heal his more stubborn wounds.  It tasted amazing as well.

He talked to his fans and supporters about the fight.  Everyone at the party took their turn congratulating his victory.  He fought a hard battle against the Mech-suited warrior.  It seemed as though she did not prepare enough and relied too much on her blasters for an easy win.  The newer warriors seemed to do things like that.

Orien Quan however was another story.  The upcoming fight with this warrior quickly became the major topic of discussion.  If it was anything like their last fight, it was going to be a real event for the record books.  More and more of the guests asked about the next fight.  It was true that Quan had incredible stealth and almost beat him last year, but the championship victory celebration was still going.  He has secured his title for the next two months and deserved some time to celebrate.

Quan was an unconventional and somewhat underhanded fighter.  His tactics were very hard to predict.  The BigBad Crew was working on strategies to surprise and take advantages of openings they have seen in his recorded fights.  However, Jaquan disliked talking about strategies, even to his fans.  Often enough, they had loose lips.

After a time of tiring questions, Jaquan started refusing them as his crew rested, ate, and had their fun.  He was a little disturbed that questions about Quan bothered him so much.  He thought he was passed the fight.  It was about a year ago.  Though it was the hardest fight he had for a long time, he managed to find a way through it.  That should only prove that he was still the best, the only one worthy of his title.

They had a wonderful time.  The food was truly delicious.  However, the party itself was quite ordinary.  Everyone talking, dancing, lifting toasts, and wishes for future victories.  It had been the same for his many years of victories before.

At one random point in the celebration, Jaquan scanned the faces at the party.  He saw one face that he did not recognize as a fan or a supporter.  However, he did look very familiar.  He decided not to press the issue too much though.  Perhaps it was just a guest of a friend.  Even he did not know everyone.

Jaquan’s crew sat waiting for him just outside the entrance of the club.  He was thankful for them.  With all his admirers, it was easy to lose track of what was important.  To the fans, his victories could seem like inevitable ends to a game.  These three, his trusted friends, helped him to stay on top of the game.  They helped him train.  They went through his hardships and frustrations with him.  They deserved to be here just as much as he did.  Catlin seemed to agree with him.  She made dress clothes for all of them.  They were just as dazzling as his coal-lined suit.

The purple skinned Neely wore a somewhat white suit and pants and light blue tie.  He was at a table looking into the room.  Jaquan could see the back of the suit where the realistic image of a glowing blue arrow was placed.  His coat was enchanted to make the arrow look like it was moving at high speeds through clouds though it stayed in the same position on his coat.  The arrow itself was lit with a light blue flame.  The image of clouds swept through his clothes, continually changing the pattern.

Liana wore a simple but elegant black dress.  It matched her black skin and showed off her figure nicely.  On the lower right leg was a flame that came up to her knee.  It was a convincing image glowing brightly.

Catlin saved the best dress for herself, red and over the right shoulder exposing most of her left wing.  The open section went nearly down to her hip showing off her perfect green skin and some of her tan spots.  All around her dress were small sequins.  They were brilliant as the light hit them.  Instead of simply reflecting the light, small flames appeared as the light hit.  As more light that hit her, more flame would appear.  She stood in the light waiting, so it looked as though her whole dress was a fire.

“Fire themed,” Jaquan said honestly amazed as he approached “Catlin, you’ve outdone yourself this time.”  Her enchants had gotten much stronger since she started learning the Unholy Talent Set.  “Did you use your new talents again?”

“Don’t you know it,” she replied rising to meet him, “I didn’t turn,” she paused to correct herself, “that much, this time.”  Her enchanting was enhanced by the new Unholy Talent Set but using them had a drawback.  Turning into a large beast was a natural side effect of using the Unholy Talents too much.  She enjoyed going wild every now and then.  The reckless freedom was very liberating though she often caused damage, to everything.

“Be careful next time,” Jaquan said concerned as he hugged the short lady lightly.  The fire dress was of course an illusion just like the burning coals on his suit.  He really did appreciate the clothing, but if she hurt herself while making them, it would not be worth the glamour.

“We ready to go in then,” Neely finally spoke up in his quiet tone, almost mumbling.

“I don’t see why not,” Liana responded for all of them.

With the last and greatest member of the team there, they all went in together as The BigBad Crew.

Champions of Battle: The Very Best – Opportunity #3

Jaquan walked to the mirrored locker-room door admiring the suit Liana chosen for him.  He liked clothes, but the clothing that Catlin made and enchanted was much better than he could ever buy.  She had made a black silk tie, a red dress shirt, and black dress pants with red cloth on the outer half of the left leg.

The suit coat was mostly black as well.  It was designed to match the red patch covering his left eye that trailed around to the back of his neck.  Just as his red skin would touch the suit, red cloth replaced the black.  It covered his left sleeve and a portion of the back, curving towards his left side at the bottom.

Interesting enough but when he put the suit on, the red portions of all his dress clothes turned reddish grey and sprouted glowing red cracks.  It kept changing until it looked exactly like coals on a burning log.  These “coals” were harmless, of course, but Catlin seemed to outdo herself more and more these days.  He was wearing coals.  It was amazing.  This would light up the dance floor perfectly and let everyone know who the guest of honor was.

By the time he was ready to leave, even more reporters seemed to have gathered around the door.  He could hear them.  He also heard the cameras clicking and wondered why they needed pictures of a locker-room door.  He would have to remember ask photographers later.

As soon as he opened the door reporters bombarded him.  They made sure to say a minimal introduction as though it meant something.  Then the question started.  He pushed through using only his legs and chest, walking calmly and briskly as they swarmed him.  He could have used a simple move to push them all away but he chose to contain himself for now.

The nearest reporter to his right muttered the first question he could understand.  “It seemed like you were in trouble for the first portion of the fight.  How did you turn it around?”  He was barely keeping up having to push against the other reporters to finish his questions.

“With machines, you gotta be patient,” Jaquan answered without slowing his pace or turning completely, “They got really good burst damage so you outlast them.  As fights get longer, sustained damage gets weak.”

The previous reporter’s microphone was long since out of range.  By this time, another reporter managed to say a question.  “What were you thinking when the blaster bolt hit your leg?”

“It hurts when you’re hit.  Always does,” Jaquan said honestly, “Noobs panic and fall apart under pressure.  Champions,” Jaquan said pointing to himself with his left hand, “Find ways to make things work out.  I got tactics from my Talent Sets.  They worked out pretty good.”

“How did you prepare for this fight,” spouted another reporter from behind him.

“One of my crew uses machines like Generosa Eh’s.  We started practicing really hard once I chose her as the challenger.  I was ready.”

One of the reporters started to mutter a question but was too close to Jaquan.  The reporter had to press against Jaquan to talk but Jaquan didn’t stop walking.  To late the reporter realized his mistake and was knocked over and walked on, without a thought from Jaquan.  As he reached the reporters chest he looked above the reporters and saw the night club portion of the hotel.  That is where his party will be.

“Orien Chuan says that he should have been next in line for the championship but you chose Generosa Eh because you were afraid to fight him.  What is your response?”

At that, Jaquan stopped to give a response.  “I’m not scared of nobody,” Jaquan said, stung by the question, “I’m the best!  I‘ve proved it time and time again!  I will be the best until someone can take the championship,” Jaquan spoke clear and purposefully, “I’ve opened challengers to anyone that wants the shot!  They all lined up and I’ve beaten ‘em.”

The reporter looked smug, happy that she found something that could stop The World Champion.  She continued, “Then, why is it that you chose Generosa Eh over Orien Chuan, a man that has the greatest chances to take your championship?”

Jaquan read her expression and saw that he had been trapped.  He decided to finish the answer anyway.  “I’m in it for the gold.  Cars, clothes, and class, you think that’s free?  Generosa Eh paid the bill and got her shot.  All Orien got is talk and cheap tricks.  Next time we fight, I’ll be ready for his cheese.  I’ll beat him worse than last time.”

At that, Jaquan started walking towards the club again, put on a stone face, and stopped answering questions.  The reporters eventually figured out that the interview was over as they could not enter the club without an invitation while it was reserved.  They dispersed by the time he reached the club.
