Adrianne tried to call for help but the gankers were too smart for that.\u00a0 Her communications, even her radio failed to function properly.\u00a0 She would have to get out from the range of their jamming signal before she could call anyone.\u00a0 This looked very bad.\u00a0 She was so far from civilization that by the time help could arrive, they would have pillaged Silent Blur and left.<\/p>\n
Who knew what they wanted?\u00a0 No doubt they saw her test the incendiary missile.\u00a0 If they stole the plans before Rubin’s Trail got hold of it, they could make a fortune.\u00a0 It burned hot enough and stuck long enough to melt metal.\u00a0 They could disable or forcibly enter a ship without completely destroying it, leaving more plunder for them.<\/p>\n
They could have seen her defensive devices.\u00a0 With her modifications, they were better than the best on the market.\u00a0 Three were capable of warding off even the larger predators.\u00a0 She had twenty four.\u00a0 Now that they were in storage mode they could be reprogrammed by any tinkerer.\u00a0 They’d be worth quite a bit on the auctions as would Silent Blur.<\/p>\n
Maybe they just felt like killing something.<\/p>\n
What they wanted was trivial.\u00a0 If they caught her, they would kill her without a second thought and take whatever they could.\u00a0 It would be forever and five days before she recovers in a rejuvenation center.\u00a0 And that’s only if she remains undigested by some wild beast.<\/p>\n
She has to escape.<\/p>\n
Adrianne had a slight advantage.\u00a0 They were counting on her to remain ignorant of their attack until it was too late.\u00a0 She possibly had a few extra seconds to prepare for the long sprint to Rubin\u2019s Trail.<\/p>\n
She also had a fairly extensive knowledge of these woods.\u00a0 She had run all around this place to test the Silent Blur\u2019s leg modifications and Captain Bubbles\u2019 functions.\u00a0 She has a good chance of outfoxing them leaving them with little more than wasted fuel.<\/p>\n
She unlocked the vehicle legs.\u00a0 Outside the ship, they rattled in place waiting to be activated.\u00a0 Inside the cockpit, her seating changed as well.\u00a0 She was strapped tightly into the chair but as she activated the legs, her seat flipped forward so that she was in a crawling position.\u00a0 The ship was designed to run like a squirrel.\u00a0 In this position she could control things so much better.<\/p>\n
As soon as Silent Blur\u2019s legs were activated, they hung loose.\u00a0 They caught wind, slowing the ship considerably.\u00a0 As she expected, the gankers knew that something was wrong.\u00a0 They picked up speed to catch her before she did anything too smart.<\/p>\n
There were in fact four of them.\u00a0 They were catching up to her quickly.\u00a0 She pinged their vectors again.\u00a0 Each of them was easily faster than Silent Blur.\u00a0 There was little room for error if she was to get out of this alive.\u00a0 Timing was everything, even now.<\/p>\n
The trees looked beautiful flying above them.\u00a0 Diving into them was always a different story.\u00a0 The beautiful leaves had many healthy branches holding them up.\u00a0 There was no way to be fully prepared for entry at high speeds, but they were approaching weapons range.\u00a0 She was running out of time.<\/p>\n
She rolled the ship and deactivated the wings.\u00a0 The hydraulic legs were extended and ready.\u00a0 With her sensors set to gain as much information as possible, she dove in.<\/p>\n
