Champions of Battle: AD7 – Awakening #25

The conference table quickly became a dinner table.  The long rounded table was black and bolted to the floor.  There were black chairs with soft brown cushions all along its length.  Everyone grabbed a sandwich, sat, and ate.  All except the pilot of course, Jai left for the front of the ship with an extra sandwich for April.  After Tirzah grabbed her sandwich, she left for her personal chambers as well.

AD7 opened the rapping and found the fragrant smell that she remembered so well.  Ge’s Noodles and Subs never disappointed.  The sandwiches were cold and a little soggy.  It looked a little suspect.  However, after tasting the sandwich, her mind was put at ease.  The recipe had not changed even after all these decades.  She should have expected no less from the Ge family.  The sandwich was outstanding, even when cold.

GarDNAnge1 agreed.  They were eating in near silence though many napkins were needed.  Once the talking started, AD7 found herself at the center of discussion.  Everyone wanted to meet the lady they had traveled all this way to find.  They were interested in Cyd too, just nowhere near as much.

They wanted to know everything about her.  Where she was originally from; how she landed in Bosstown; the origin of her name; what inspired her to become a builder; the planning of the Mech Wall; how she built and programmed the machines so quickly; how she stayed one step ahead of Rubin’s Trail; what times were really like fifty years ago; the questions kept coming.  AD7 had a little trouble answering them all.  Her memory was returning, but there were still very large bits of her history that remained blank.

Keyanna was really interested in her.  Scientists, blacksmiths, and mechanics were able to copy some of Mech Fortress’ technology and open Mech Talent Schools.  Keyanna used these talents with the Berserker and Archery Talents to create a devastating style.  To actually meet the inspiration behind her most powerful talent set was an absolute dream.

This was a little overwhelming for AD7.  The sudden fame was a bit confusing.  She still considered herself a simple builder.  She didn’t do anything special.  She only built a defensive wall as best she could.  Maybe she did a little too well.

After initial introductions and questions, AD7 sat back and watched them talk while she ate.  Even the three she knew took on different roles with the others around.  They laughed and joked and commented on the food.  Oyintsa and Royal were making fun of each other on how they fought the ratcoon.  It was an incredible story the way they told it.

They all seemed like good people.  AD7 wanted to know all of them.  She wanted to know them as well as they knew each other, but there were so many.  They were all from different places and had unique abilities.  They were a strong team.  Even with their strength, they needed her help.

AD7 kept thinking about what Tirzah had told her.  She was supposed to build great working buildings for them.  They expected her to do something similar to what she made before she died.  But even then, she desperately needed her helper.  They needed to free Eighty-Seven.

After they had finished eating, AD7 turned to Keyanna and said, “I really need to talk to Tirzah.”

“Sure, no problem,” was her honest response, “I’ll take you to her.”

Champions of Battle: AD7 – Awakening #24

Onboard Stealth Phrygian somewhere on the outskirts of Bosstown:

After about thirty seconds of thought and reasoning, Jai Qiao was still trying to pick the best response.  There were several ways this challenge could go.  In this game, one response could change the way the whole round ends.  After a short chain of responses, even the smartest player could find himself trapped with no more correct answers to choose from.  This match was timed however and he was running out of it.  In a hurry, he just went with his gut.  “Peanut,” he said with his best game face.

Cyd spun in the soft black chair without a hint of stress.  At the point where he would be able to see Jai clearly he said, “Turnip.”  He continued spinning until he was facing away from his opponent again.

His quick response put Jai at a loss.  Jai was the champion here, but this new guy’s answer was good.  Not only was it quick, it put Jai back at a worse position he was at before.  Now he had to pick from the same word set but had one less correct choice.  Well, there was no point in Cyd being the only one getting a speed bonus.  “Pecan,” Jai said quickly.

“Stop,” Keyanna Bo said, “You’re making me hungry.”  She wasn’t the only one that was hungry.  All of GardNAnge1 was there minus the two members they were waiting for, eleven of them including Cyd.  They were promised good food, so they all waited.  Granted the anticipation didn’t make the wait any more bearable.

Cyd ignored her.  He had to think a little more to come up with an answer this time.  Still, he found one rather quickly.  He didn’t turn in his spinning chair this time.  Instead, he called loud enough for Jai to hear from behind him, “Nutmeg.”

“Garlic.”

“Already said Garlic.”

“Oh.”

And with that, Cyd was the new champion.  There were only a few cheers from the team.  It was hard finding ways to pass the time while they waited for the stragglers.  They only really played the game because there was little better to do.  Jai had won repeatedly so a change was good.  They could all gain a little knowledge from this new guy.  Possibly there was more that he could teach them.

The defeated Jai walked up to the cockpit.  Honestly, he was a little relieved that the game was over.  He felt slightly smarter after each round, but after a few matches the headaches started.

“Finally done,” April Jing asked.  Jai nodded in response.  “Good,” she said, “Got some blips on the radar.  I think they’re almost here.”

Stealth Phrygian was Tirzah’s favorite ship to use when the whole team was traveling.  It had flying and climbing capabilities that far surpassed any of their enemies.  It was also capable of housing the whole team plus any guests they may come across.

April was the best pilot of the team while Jai came in a close second.  Together they were pilot and copilot.  They had moved Stealth Phrygian to a much better place in the outskirts of town; much closer.  However, the journey would still be hard for creatures only a few centimeters in height.

“Strap in,” April called out over the com, “We’re going to pick them up.”

Within minutes, they landed near the two warriors and their sandwich holding companion.  After a few minutes, they all loaded up and were again in the air this time headed for Sanity.  The sandwiches were dispensed.  However, after the long journey, they were not in peak condition.

Grabbing her sandwich, Keyanna turned up her nose, “Oh, these sandwiches are cold.”

“Cold food is food,” Hachiro said, “Weren’t you the one complaining about being hungry?”
